Travel Itinerary Samples

We care about our guests and strive to provide ideal BVI sailing itineraries for each adventurer at Blue Ocean Charters. We have put together a few example itineraries to give you some inspiration of places to visit in the British Virgin Islands. Each trip is customizable so you can request one of the trips below or use this as a jumping off point. Always feel free to contact us at any point in your trip planning for recommendations and advice on where to go and what to do for your trip.

DAY 1

St. Thomas to St. John

St Thomas to St. John

Step aboard in Yacht Haven Grande, St. Thomas at 12pm guests welcomed with Cocktails and a light lunch or appetizer. Once guests have settled in luggage has been stowed and a safety brief has been given we will cruise from St. Thomas to St. John. Pull into Maho bay on St. John for the afternoon and evening where they will enjoy sundowners and dinner alongside the company of the abundant sea turtles in the bay.

DAY 2

Tortola & Norman Island

Tortola & Norman Island

Breakfast will be served in Maho where guests can observe a quiet morning in the calm of the early day as well as get the adventure rolling with a morning snorkel! From Maho bay we cruise to West End Tortola to check into customs. A mid morning swim and snorkel at the Indians is a perfect way to further the exploration of the Islands. The Indians are considered to be one of the best snorkels in the BVI. Like jumping into an aquarium, the life and color that are present is breathtaking. For lunch we move to Pirate’s Bight, Norman Island the hideout of the infamous Sir Francis Drake! After lunch guests will feel like a true pirate as we will head to the World famous Willy T’s, the floating pirate bar! The adventure never ends as you can drink rum with the salty crew or even walk the plank! Afternoon drinks can be enjoyed on the beach before dinner is served. Post dinner guests always have the option for a quiet night of stargazing and conversation or to kick it up a notch with some music and dancing!

DAY 3

Peter Island & Cooper Island

Peter Island & Cooper Island

After breakfast the adventure continues over to Peter Island, the setting of the famous novel, Treasure Island and the location of the alleged never found treasure of Black Beard! Here we will enjoy a snorkel at the newly sunken pirate ship wreck, the original Willy T’s. After our snorkel we will cruise over to Cooper island for the rest of the afternoon and evening. After lunch the guests are free to enjoy everything Cooper Island has to offer! One can head to shore to enjoy the lush beach where only a few steps away lies the largest library of Rum in the B.V.I, homemade ice cream, a quaint coffee shop and world class restaurant. Cooper Island is also home to some of the friendliest staff, sure to put a smile on your face! Cooper island is a great place to bring out the paddle boards, lounge about on the floating mat or enjoy a bit of snorkeling around the boat.

DAY 4

Virgin Gorda

To start the day, we will have an early morning sail from Cooper to the lovely, world famous Baths of Virgin Gorda. Breathtaking landscapes and white sand beaches will stimulate your senses. Breakfast will be served as guests can take in the scenery unlike anywhere in the world. After breakfast a refreshing swim in the crystal clear waters to the beach for a hike and exploration of the rare bathalisc rocks. After exploring The Baths one can enjoy the quiet wonder of a boat under sail as we make our way to the lively and colorful Leverick Bay for an evening of live entertainment by the one and only Micheal Beans!

DAY 5

Anegada

Anegada

In the morning we will set sail to Anegada! In only two hours we will reach the north most island in the British Virgin Islands. We will have breakfast underway so we can have as much time to spend exploring and experiencing the charm of Anegada. Once we’ve arrived in Anegada we recommend guests rent “Mokes” which are a cross between jeeps and golf carts. The “mokes” are the best way to explore and Visit the many beaches and bars located along the coast of Anegada, and why not do so in style! Anegada meaning flooded land is consistently a guest favorite being that it’s very unique in comparison to the other islands. It happens to be a built up sand bar almost entirely surrounded by reef making it a stunning day on shore. Along with the rare landscapes you’ll find some of the most eclectic bars the Virgin Islands have to offer! From luxury cabanas at the Anegada Beach Club to the self service of Cow Wreck you’re sure for some fun, sun, sand, and a drink in your hand! Being the home of the Anegada lobster we recommend guests go ashore for dinner and give the Caribbean crustacean a try and then move over to Potters by the Sea for some dancing and limbo!

DAY 6

Guana Island & White Bay

Guana Island & White Bay

After breakfast we will sail from Anegada to Guana Island For a lovely lunch just off White Bay after a snorkel in Diamond reef, another stunningly colorful ecosystem for guests to receive an up close view of underwater sea life! White Bay is an amazing isolated beach where guests can search for seashells, stroll along the beach and chill out in The electric blue waters. The bay is generally very calm and presents the opportunity for a lovely cruise around on the paddle boards, or even on a wakeboard (if the vessel offers)! Monkey Point at White Bay also offers another opportunity for a vivacious snorkel, and if you are lucky you might catch a peek of the resident nurse shark taking her afternoon nap!

DAY 7

Caneel Bay on St. John

Caneel Bay on St. John

After breakfast we will head to the world famous Soggy Dollar bar on Jost Van Dyke. Your troubles will seem worlds away as you take your first sip of a Soggy Dollar pain killer and look upon the crystal clear waters and white sand beaches of JVD. Later that Afternoon we’ll move to Caneel Bay St. John, Check into U.S. customs in Cruz Bay and explore the quaint beach town, do some shopping, and experience some of the best happy hour sunset drinks before heading back to the boat for dinner!

After Breakfast we will move from St. John back to Yacht Haven Grande and say our goodbyes at 12:00 p.m.

Diamond Reef

Diamond Reef

Move from Leverick to Diamond reef for a beautiful snorkel in one of the most abundant reefs in the BVI. After our snorkel we’ll move to Sandy Spit for lunch, a small inlet reminiscent of a long lost deserted paradise. It even happens to be the setting of many Corona advertisements, so you’re sure to ‘find your beach”. Afternoon will melt into the evening’s activities as we will move on to Cane Garden Bay, Tortola for a wonderful sunset walk on the beach and an opportunity for guests to have some happy hour sundowner cocktails amidst live music in the lively and colorful town!

DAY 6

Soggy Dollar & St. John

Soggy Dollar & St. John

After breakfast we will head to the world famous Soggy Dollar bar on Jost Van Dyke. Your troubles will seem worlds away as you take your first sip of a soggy dollar painkiller and look upon the crystal clear waters and white sand beaches of JVD. Later that Afternoon we’ll move to Caneel Bay St. John, Check into U.S. customs in Cruz Bay and explore the quaint beach town, do some shopping, and experience some of the best happy hour sunset drinks before heading back to the boat for dinner!

DAY 7

Coral Bay

Coral Bay

After breakfast we will move from Caneel Bay to Coral Bay to enjoy some of the best tacos found in the Virgin Islands at the floating taco bar, Lime Out! Sure to be a memorable afternoon with good food, friends, and cocktails all while hanging in the water! After Lime Out we will cruise over to Salt Pond for amazing snorkeling in the stunningly blue waters where you can have a quick hike up to Rams Head Point which offers gorgeous panoramic views of the Islands or relax on the quiet isolated white sand beach.

DAY 8

After Breakfast we will move from St. John back to Yacht Haven Grande and say our goodbyes at 12:00 p.m.

DAY 1

St. Thomas to Magens Bay

St. Thomas to Magens Bay

Step aboard in Yacht Haven Grande, St. Thomas at 12pm guests welcomed with Cocktails and a light lunch or appetizers. Once guests have settled in luggage has been stowed and a safety brief has been given we will move from St. Thomas to Magens bay on the west side of St. Thomas. Magens bay is one of the most beautiful areas of St Thomas with a mile Long Beach and stunningly blue waters are sure to get your vacation started on a high note with sunning, swimming, cocktails and relaxation. Magens bay has some of the calmest waters which allow for all water toys to be used at all skill levels!

DAY 2

Maho Bay

Maho Bay

After a wonderful breakfast in Magens bay we will push on to Maho bay where we’ll be able to chill in the water, relax on the beach and at the eclectic beach bar, or snorkel with the abundant sea turtles of the bay! Maho is filled with activities to take up the whole day! We will be enjoying lunch and dinner here as well, all the while taking in the lovely scenery and quiet beauty of the bay!

DAY 3

Watermelon Cay

Watermelon Cay

Breakfast will be served in Maho where guests can observe a quiet morning in the calm of the early day as well as get the adventure rolling with a morning snorkel! From Maho bay we cruise to Waterlemon Cay to enjoy some lovely snorkeling and a casual hike to some of the old sugar mills to see some of the history of the islands! After a nice walk and snorkel we will head up the north side of St. John to Coral bay to enjoy some of the best tacos found in the Virgin Islands at the floating taco bar, Lime Out! Sure to be a memorable afternoon with good food, friends, and cocktails all while hanging in the water! After a nice lunch we will make our way to Salt Pond for the evening, a beautifully secluded bay with electric blue waters, a lovely white sand beach and abundant reef life.

DAY 4

St. John

St. John

In the morning we will have the opportunity to hike to Rams Head Point, which offers gorgeous panoramic views of the Islands and snorkel at the beautiful coral reef of the bay! After breakfast and we are all finished with morning activities, we will move on to little Lamshire Bay where we might be able to have the bay and beach to ourselves. The bay has some of the best snorkeling on St. John with a chance to even find spotted eagle rays. Surrounded by all national parks, there isn’t an artificial light in sight which allows for some of the best stargazing and occasional bioluminescent algae.

DAY 5

St John & Caneel Bay

After breakfast we will make our way down the southside of St. John and pull into Caneel Bay where the beach combing, sunning and swimming will continue! In the afternoon we will pop over to Cruz bay and explore the quaint beach town, do some shopping, and experience some of the best happy hour sunset drinks before heading back to the boat for dinner!

DAY 6

Hawksnest Bay & Cinnamon Bay

Hawksnest Bay & Cinnamon Bay

After breakfast we’ll head to Hawksnest Bay for a swim stop in the crystal clear waters as well as some lunch in the gorgeous scenery! After lunch we’ll make our way to gorgeous Cinnamon Bay where we will spend our afternoon and evening. Once in Cinnamon Bay well be able dinghy over to a private beach where we can have sundowner cocktails before dinner is served!

DAY 7

Water Island

Water Island

After breakfast we will head over to Water Island! Once we anchor in Water island we will have lunch on board and then head to the beach! Water Island is considered one of the best kept local secrets of the USVI, sure to provide a fun filled afternoon with beach volleyball, beach tennis, and the opportunity to take a tour of the little island on private golf carts! Along with the many activities provided, a local beach bar will surely melt your troubles away with the first sip of the Water Island specialty, paddlewhakcers!

Buck Island St. Croix

Buck Island St. Croix

This morning we will be leaving early to get to Buck Island St. Croix! The sail generally takes about six hours so we would need to leave before breakfast in order to have as much time as we can on Buck Island. Being a protected park, Buck Island is home to some of the most amazing snorkeling in the Virgin Islands along with beautifully protected white sand beaches! After our day on the Buck Island we will head into Christiansted Harbor, St. Croix where we will spend our evening!

DAY 5

St. Croix

St. Croix

Today we will organize a private tour of the lovely island of St. Croix! Being the biggest island in the USVI there’s lots to see like the Eastern most part of the United States, leatherback brewery, mutiny Vodka distillery, many local farms and beautiful beaches around the island.

DAY 6

Caneel Bay

This morning we’ll leave a bit early and make our way back to St. John! We will be going into Caneel Bay where the beach combing, sunning and swimming will continue! In the afternoon we will pop over to Cruz Bay and explore the quaint beach town, do some shopping, and experience some of the best happy hour sunset drinks before heading back to the boat for dinner!

Water Island

After breakfast we will head over to Water Island! Once we anchor in Water Island we will have lunch on board and then head to the beach!
